What Are You?

Some say, I am only a sinner saved by grace. That is not true. You are also a child of God if you have believed in Jesus.

Your status has changed. In a dramatic way. You have passed from death to life.

A sinner is one whose life is characterized by sin. Is that you? Has there been no change in your behavior?

You were an enemy of God but now you have been reconciled to Him through the blood of his son, Jesus.

This is the greatest change that a person can have. No, you didn’t deserve it. But it is false humility to call yourself a sinner. You are now one of God’s own. Let your light shine.

Gratitude is the Gateway

It says that Adam and Eve’s eyes were opened. They saw things differently.

How do we see things as believers? Do we see God’s hand providing for us?

Or do we just assume it?

We could develop an attitude of gratitude. It’s a simple way to keep in contact with God. Let’s look beyond how we get our daily needs and see God’s hand providing for us.

Who knows what this could lead to in our lives?

Parables about Kingdom of God

Matthew 13:33

He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

Matthew 13:44

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Mark 4:30

And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

Wild Flowers

Jesus said to consider the flowers out in the field. Consider means more than just take a quick look.

What about these flowers? They have no gardener. They have no one to make sure they get the right amount of water.

Yet they grow and as we examine them, we find them intricately made. He compares them with how Solomon dressed.

Another rich king, in China, Kublai Khan, gave parties where the guests wore outfits that cost a years wages. He provided them.

And here are flowers out far in the field. We have to walk out from the road to see them. And the closer we look the more beautiful we find them.

What is his point? Your Father in heaven gives them their clothes. And he knows you need clothes, too. Will he forget you as he remembers the wild flowers?

If you stop worrying about your daily needs, what should you do with your time? Seek the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.

Again, seeking is not done in a few minutes. It takes time and effort to do this. The kingdom of God was important to Jesus. He talked about it a lot. Check out the many parables he used.

The Kingdom of God

The kingdom of God is within you.

Jesus says first that it doesn’t come by observing it. You can’t see it. You can see crowds around Jesus but you can’t see inside people hearts.

Jesus spoke of two men going to the temple. One goes home no different. The other goes home forgiven. And it’s the tax collector not the priest! But you couldn’t tell as you saw the two men leave the temple.

Jesus had just said that one man of the ten that were cured of leprosy came back to thank him. The man was moved by gratefulness to come back and thank Jesus.

This again shows an internal feeling. It can’t be seen easily. Jesus points it out. He remarks on the act of this one man.

Was that man told to thank Jesus? No. But his heart led him to do it. This is the kingdom of God working within.

Soul

Do you know what your soul is?

Your soul, as well as your body, is a gift of God.

Where did you come from? Your mother gave birth to your body but she did not create your soul.

Our body does what we want it to do. We forget that all this had to be learned as a small child.

We did not know how it worked at our beginning. We learned to process what we could see. We learned how to use our arms and legs. Yes, we learned to walk.

And our hands are most remarkable! Consider the opposable thumb.

Yet, our soul remains a mystery. Our soul is made by God, in his image. And our soul needs God very much. If we have been “saved” by Jesus, what does this mean to our soul?

Since we are no longer at war with God, we have peace in our soul.

Moses asked God if he could see His Glory. God showed him some of it.

Job asked God for an answer to why he had such losses in his life. He received an answer from God.

Do we desire more from God?

Jesus said, “Seek and you will find.”

And there is alway more of God to be found by us.
